Heavily Beach Boys influenced (You may laugh, but Brian Wilson was just as fat in '76.) euro-pop about free love. (Apparently. Well, what are those two female backing singers singing to the lead? And what about those two at the back? And why is that piano player smiling?)

Dschinghis Khan / "Dschinghis Khan" (Germany, 1979)
Apparently Germany decided a Boney M influenced (eg Rasputin, Ma Baker) disco stomp about a mad leader whose crowd murder millions across Eurasia would be a suitable entry to play in Israel that year.

(The intro bit while they change stuff around is rather interesting as well. Obviously it's not the BBC version, or you'd have Terry Wogan making sarky comments over it.)



(They didn't win either, host nation Israel did, but I'd advise you not to listen to their song unless you like the New Seekers in Hebrew.)

Guildo Horn & Die Orthopädischen Strümpfe / "Guildo hat euch lieb" (Germany, 1998)
The sound's a bit out of sync on this one, but you get the idea... Apparently most of Germany disowned this track at the time but like it now. (A bit like Scotland vis-a-vis The Proclaimers.)



(No, he didn't win this one, and Israel won this one too, but they had half decent tune this time.)
